HARBORVIEW’S INTERPRETER SERVICES department has an outstanding opportunity for a Medical Interpreter 2, Amharic / Tigrinya WORK SCHEDULE

  • Full-Time, 40 hours per week

  • Day Shift POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Enable patient(s) to access medical care.

  • Be a part of a team dedicated to improving language access. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide interpretation for target languages.

  • Provide accurate rendition of a written text in one language to an oral message in another language.

  • Manage complexity of cross-cultural encounter.

  • Utilize/integrate ethical practice to guide behavior in all interpretations.

  • Consult with provider prior to encounter.

  • Assess patients’ interpretation needs.

  • Explain and clarify cultural behaviors. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS High school graduation or equivalent AND three years interpretation and translation experience in a clinic or hospital setting AND medical interpreter certification or qualification either from Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters, or the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters ORequivalent education/experience.
