Description

As a member of an airport work crew, or individually required to do service and maintenance work related to airport operations, and to operate both light service vehicles and heavy snow removal equipment.

Examples of Duties

  • Clears, grades, and level landscaping.

  • Removes snow and applies deicing materials to snowy and icy areas both air and landside.

  • Cuts, trims, rakes, seeds, fertilize, and waters grass areas and shrubbery both air and land side.

  • Erects and repairs fences, guard rails, and snow fencing.

  • Fills cracks and holes on runways and other areas on the airport as designated by superiors.

  • Loads refuse [trash] and waste materials onto refuse packer [garbage truck] and activate compaction controls.

  • Clean and pick up debris and spills or other refuse [trash] on airport premises and thoroughfares [roads].

  • Operate light service vehicles and heavy snow removal equipment

  • Operates two-way radio communication equipment for ATC clearance to operate on movement areas, runway and taxiway crossings, RSA, and report any safety hazards or equipment failures.

  • Assisting mounting or hooking up sand spreaders, brooms, plows, or and other equipment used and/or needed for the operation.

  • Erects and dismantles bleachers, stands, and other structures, as needed.

  • Load and unload equipment and supplies

  • Refuels all equipment when necessary and tracks the usage

  • Helps with minor carpentry, plumbing, pipefitting, electrical, and paint work.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications (required):

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. (General Education Development)

 Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted to meet the education and experience requirements of this position.

Qualifications (preferred):

  • One (1) year of experience in work related to airport grounds maintenance.
  • Two (2) years of experience in landscaping and street construction activities.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS
City Employees Retirement System
As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System.  This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:
•    Completion of thirty (30) years of service;
- At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or         
- At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.
•   In the event of  disability, other eligibility rules apply);
- An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;
