Description

Under general supervision, assists in coordinating and monitoring projects both in field and in office; ensures compliance with departmental practices, regulation, and directives, equipment testing and installation. 

Examples of Duties

1.     Monitors and inspects work performed and uses knowledge of codes, regulations, policies and procedures to report observed conditions, identifies problems and responds to inquiries on engineering, construction, maintenance and operations contracts, technical pilot projects and legal compliance requirements.

2.    Performs the field inspection of construction projects and prepares Inspect Daily reports (IDR) and inputs into MDOT’s Field Manager software. 

3.    Collects compliance documentation and other relevant information to assist in coordination of technical projects and enforcement activities.

4.     Researches contract, engineering and other technical documentation for information pertinent to assigned projects.

5.    Conducts special studies and tests requiring application of elementary engineering principles in connection with engineering, operations, maintenance, and permit enforcement activities or projects.

6.    Prepares reports related to assigned technical problems or monitoring work, detailing tests conducted, observations made and results obtained.

7.     Prepares plans, engineering drawings, maps and other spatial representations on Computer Assisted Drafting and Design (CADD) equipment and applying Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology. 

8.    Utilizes cell libraries and follows prescribed standards for the integration and presentation of project documentation data in CADD.

9.    Coordinates the assemblage of data for projects and/or permit enforcement monitoring and documentation and confers with designated personnel, departmental divisions and other agencies.

10.   Prepares, configures and calibrates technical equipment.

11.   Examines and interprets source material, such as tables, contracts, engineering documents, catalogs, contracts, maps, specifications, operations manuals, drawings, office records and other documents for reference in carrying out assignments.

12.   Maintains and modifies databases, records and specialized logs. 

13.   Summarizes analytical data into tables, charts and graphs.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

High school graduation or G.E.D. with successful completion of coursework in algebra, geometry and trigonometry.  

Completion of advanced training with coursework applicable to engineering or engineering technology work. Associate degree in design or engineering technology is preferred.

Preferred

Associates Degree in Design or Engineering Technology

One year of experience in technical work that includes CADD operation for engineering, planning or mapping projects, technical project coordination, or other technical work involving the application of the principles, methods and techniques of engineering technology.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS
City Employees Retirement System
As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System.  This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:
•    Completion of thirty (30) years of service;
- At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or         
- At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.
