General Motors Tech Communications Lead in Shanghai, China

Job Description

As a Tech Communications Manager at GM China, you will lead storytelling of GM’s advanced technologies both internally and externally. This role is crucial for enhancing GM’s reputation in technology and innovation as the company continues its pivot towards an all-electric future and software-defined vehicles.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute “show not tell” communication strategies that effectively convey GM’s tech advancement to a diverse audience

  • Serve as the primary liaison between China communications and internal stakeholders to deliver compelling and well-aligned content

  • Lead GM China tech executive communications and handle media inquiries related to GM’s technology development and deployment

  • Design internal communication programs that enhance people’s understanding of GM’s technology transformation and connection with GM’s vision

  • Address potential issues that could impact the company’s reputation in technology and innovation, taking swift actions to mitigate any crisis

III. Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Competencies:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a communications role, preferably from a top tech company

  • Tech background with knowledge of IT, engineering and software development is a plus

  • Knowledge of automotive technology trends and industry landscape

  • Ability to translate complex technical information into compelling stories

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and experience in handling executives

  • Excellent writing skills in Chinese

  • Fluent English

  • Education:

Bachelor's degree or above in Journalism, Public Relations, or a closely related field
